By Karen Flagg, CWA Director

Hope everyone is faring well with the cold. How would it be if some of the Granges that are open or even at someone’s home if several people get together to work on items for the CWA table or items for the Big E? I would be willing to provide patterns and fabric. It could be a weekday if that works best. As I was contemplating some issues about CWA, I thought back to when Dolores Moore was Director and how the tables were always loaded with baked goods and handmade items of all kinds. Please contact me as I try and check my email daily. If anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to call me. Until next month, take care.

Please note, Karen has a new phone number: 207 500-2148 or you can email her with your questions  (flaggkaren52atgmaildotcom)  .

I would first like to apologize to Brenda Chase from Cape Elizabeth Grange for omitting her name in my yearly report as she won 3rd place in the Adult Garment category. I want to let everyone know that a total of $875.00 was collected for House in the Woods. Many thanks for your donations. I do have the list of Granges that donated at State Session but need to meet up with Master Sherry to have her sign more certificates.

Congratulations to the winners at the Big E. Maine had five entries and all five won a ribbon: 3 piece baby set (1st) Karen Flagg, quilted wall hanging (2nd) Patricia Libby, baby afghan (2nd) Karen Flagg, afghan (2nd) Jacqueline Morgan, adult garment (3rd) Karen Flagg. Everyone has received their ribbons and cash. Thank you for everyone that participated.

The ladies from Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers were very grateful and appreciative of the generosity for the check and gifts. Again, thank you to each and every one of you. Enjoy the Holidays and good health.

I would like to thank everyone that was able to attend this year’s conference. There were some very good and constructive changes to make for the upcoming year. The judges commented again this year on how difficult the judging was due to the quality of the entries as there were several that had only one point difference between first, second, and third place. I would like to sincerely thank Debbie Ivers, Margaret Henderson and her grandsons for all of their help in setting up for the conference. Last but not least, Rick and Greg, I thank you so much for taking the time to come up and do the baking judging. I sincerely look forward to seeing you at this year’s State Session in Skowhegan. We are ALWAYS looking for donations to the baking table, donations of mittens, hats, and toys for the Little Wanderers, pennies for House in the Woods, and the can tabs for the Shriners. And last but not least, I would like to thank each and every one of you that sent in their end of year report.

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer while working on all of your needlework projects.

Just reminding everyone that all Needlework and Craft Contest entries are due at MSG Headquarters by August 21, 2018. For those that have heard the rumors that the Conference will be held at Manchester Grange, please disregard this rumor.

The Conference will be held on August 25, 2018, with Baking and Dress-A-Doll entries being logged in downstairs by 8:30 A.M.

Dress Revue will be starting by 9:00 A.M., followed by a short break with coffee, tea, etc., we will then go on to the Needlework winners.

Please be sure all Subordinate and Pomona reports are in by the date of the conference.?You can just bring it with you.

Last but not least, I want to thank everyone for their patience in the delay of CWA Certificates being sent back to the appropriate Granges for their donations but I had issues on meeting with out Master for her signature.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the Conference.

Webmaster’s Note: This story has been corrected to reflect that Needlework and Craft Contest entries are due by August 21, 2018, not 2019 as originally listed.

By now everyone listed in the Roster as CWA should have received their annual letter from me. I have included all of the info on the National Grange Quilt Block as well as the annual requests for the organizations that we support. Please don’t forget your can tabs for the Shriners, pennies for House in the Woods and Baked Goods for the CWA table at State Session in October.

By now all of your baking and judging are done so that those winners will be ready to submit their entries for the August CWA Conference.

Just a reminder that if anyone is volunteering to work at the Big E Grange Store please be sure and let our State Master be aware of your intentions.

Enjoy your summer and have a safe Fourth of July.

Hopefully, we will no longer see any more of that white stuff for at least a few months. Have any of you thought of any new ideas for Charitable Donating? I find that I really need to downsize my craft supplies that I have accumulated over the years! I would love to see different Granges having workshops making many of the various items that I will be more than willing to donate fabric to any Grange that wants to get together and work on Linus Quilts, pillowcases, etc. What about a get together to work on items for the Big E. Again, I will donate fabric for aprons, stuffed animals. pillows, etc. I do not have the list with me on what their needs are as I am at the Auburn at the Library. Many of the Big E needs are listed in this years? CWA Booklet so check it out and let me know what you would like to do. I also have many sewing patterns, so get a group together. Let me know the time and location, all day or half a day, your choice so let’s get together and be creative.

Also, do not forget we have thank you certificates available for members and nonmembers that take the time and effort that they put into donating for our many charitable contributions. Until next month, be safe.

Am finally able to get out and doing everything on my own again. Recently realized my monthly articles were not being sent in so am rectifying that issue now. Hope everyone is working on items for the upcoming baking and needlecraft contests.

Please check the phone number that you have for me. The correct number is 207-524-2011. That is the one listed in the CWA Booklet.

I would still like to add members to the committee. If anyone is interested, please let me know. I can either be contacted by phone or mail as right now I do not have access to the Internet.

Enjoy one day at a time.

Happy New Year to each and every one of you. For those of you that sent me cards on the loss of another brother last month I thank you and will be sending notes out shortly as I finally had “my last surgery” I hope.? With the weather we have been having I hope everyone is working on their Craft and Baking entries. I do not have internet right now so if you have any questions please call me at my home: (207) 524-2011. the only time I will not be beside my phone is when I have Dr. appointments. Until next month, take care, my friends.

This year’s Quilt Block for National Grange is called “Tender Heart.” I’m not sure if it is on the National Granges website. I will include all the information in my April donation request for the year.

Webmaster’s Note: Unfortunately, this update arrived too late for inclusion in the January Bulletin, but we’re happy to post it here. There was fairly complete Quilt Block Information in the most recent National Grange Patrons Chain Newsletter.? Click the link to access it from the National Grange website.

Hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving. Now just Christmas to get through. If anyone sent fudge to State Session and did not get their container back, please let me know so that I can get it to you.

I would like all the members to consider making items for the sewing contests as we only had six entries last year and if we do not get more than we may have to consider dropping that contest.

On another note, all handcrafts, as stated in the CWA booklet, MUST be judged at the Pomona Level. This year I was just as guilty as some other members. There CANNOT be more than one item in the same category from each Pomona, so please make sure all items are judged before being sent on.

I have been asked to be the CWA Director for another term and was absolutely delighted to accept the position.

The Penny March for House in the Woods at State Session came to the grand total of $1,360.00. You should all congratulate yourselves for a job well done.

For those that were not at the state session, the baking contest has been changed to muffins instead of pie. You may use your own recipe and when having them judged, please put four of them on a disposable plate with the label in a plastic baggie taped to the underside with the information showing.

I am working on filling the positions on the committee but am going to try something different by having the members have assigned areas/districts. As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to call me and if I am not home I will get back to you ASAP.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
